      As in many of her other stories, Jones develops her narrative on the basis of an unusual, imaginative supposition: that witchcraft in a parallel-world, contemporary England is prevalent but punishable by burning. When one of the teachers at a government boarding school for 'witch-orphans and children with other problems' finds a note implicating someone in the class as a witch, preposterous and magical events begin to occur. Entertaining and hilariously funny.
