A sexy novel, rich with love, laughter, and steamy passion that sizzles with New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas's hallmark sensuality and delicious tension

Millionaire Texas playboy Jack Travis lives for pleasure. He has money, women, and no commitments, and that's just the way he likes it. Then a gorgeous stranger with an infant appears on his doorstep, rocking his carefree world.

Columnist Ella Varner liked her independent life too, until her wild younger sister Tara, skipped town, leaving baby Luke in her responsible hands. Ella doesn't know how to raise a child, and she's not going to do it alone. The baby's father—Jack—will have to help.

For the first time in his life, Jack can't smooth talk his way out a jam. But the more he gets to know Ella and Luke, the more he discovers he doesn't want to. Ella admits the charming Jack is sexy as hell. But if she lets her guard down will he break her heart?

As sparks fly and heat rises drawing them irresistibly closer, Jack and Ella will have to decide if they're playing house . . . or playing for keeps.

Jack Travis--charming, rich, and gorgeous--has never encountered a woman like Ella Varner--cute, sassy, and determined. Ella is going to find out who the father of her sister Tara's baby is--and have him live up to his responsibilities. When she zeroes in on Jack as a possibility, the romantic sparks fly, and the laughs begin. Emily Durante perfectly captures Ella's quirkiness, warmth, and longing and Jack's Southern charm and depth. Lesser characters--the Travis clan, the other possible fathers, and Ella and Tara's manipulative but highly entertaining mother--are portrayed memorably. This is a fun and funny listen, not to be missed. A.C.P. (c) AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine

Ella Varner grew up with a troublesome mother and an insecure sister, but she has managed to come out of it reasonably sane, with a good (if vegan) boyfriend, Dane, and a job as an advice columnist. All of this gets turned upside down when her sister disappears and sticks Ella with her newborn, Luke. Determined to find Luke's father, Ella tracks down a likely suspect—millionaire playboy Jack Travis. The encounter results in Travis and Ella unexpectedly engaged in an irrepressible attraction. Meanwhile, Ella grows fond of baby Luke and fears what will happen when Tara returns. As Ella grapples with conflicting desires, she learns some important lessons about love and trust. Though Kleypas has trouble breaking her male characters out of archetype and the arc is familiar, Ella's familial dysfunction distinguishes her from other heroines, and her self-awareness draws her out of a stereotypical shell. This will please romance fans, even if it hews a bit too closely to genre conventions.

Finding herself responsible for her troubled sister's newborn son, advice columnist Ella Varner is determined to track down the baby's father so she can get back to her own life. The first of her sister's former dates she confronts is Houston playboy, Jack Travis—who disarms her with his charm and sincerity. Her growing affection for both the baby and Jack throws her ordered life and her relationship with her boyfriend, Dane, into upheaval. Emily Durante provides a polished reading; her voice is smooth and pleasing, but her light tone and youthful manner of speaking would be better matched with a younger character than this book's strong heroine. A St. Martin's hardcover (Reviews, Feb. 2).
